English singer and songwriter Liam Payne announced that he will be trying magic mushroom as a treatment for depression. Payne will be partnering with Dragon’s Den star Steven Bartlett in the trials of magic mushrooms.

Payne who is also a member of boy band One Direction said he was encouraged by Bartlett to invest in clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focusing on transforming treatment of mental disorders Atai Life Sciences NV (ATAI) which Bartlett describes as the biggest mental health company in the world.

Payne made this revelation while speaking at British Podcast Awards “What we are pushing for is for it to be legal in clinical settings not for it to be legal out on the streets,” said Payne. While on an interview last month, Payne addressed a dark time in is life and a moment of pill-and-booze which he went through while still in the group.

There are clinical trials going on at the moment using one of the psychedelic compounds called psilocybin. It is a compound that is found in magic mushrooms. It unlocks your subconscious, as much of what causes resistant depression and depression generally isn’t that you have something like a melt in your brain, it is more to do with something that has happened to you,” said Bartlett.
